Karen Vida's Resignation

It's with sadness that at last evening's meeting, the session received and accepted Karen Vida's resignation as Christian Education Director. Personally, I've appreciated her dedication and involvement during my time at Cove. She will be missed. The elders decided to begin looking for a replacement after the new session is installed.

Since we're about to move into the Christmas season, I think we all want to make sure our children have the chance to celebrate fully the birth of Jesus. To do this, we need to work together. We have a Christmas pageant scheduled for December 13 (program at 6:30, preceded by a dinner at 5:30). We've also discussed a parents day out for December 5. If you're willing to help with either activity or if you have an idea for something else we might do, please give me a call. Any time you can offer would be appreciated.

As a word of good news, TJ Smith has volunteered to work with our older youth. I know he'd also welcome any help you can offer and of course your prayers.

Christian Education News

First and foremost I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who participated in "RINGING IN THE NEW YEAR" with us! I thought this went beautifully. I truly LOVED everyone singing (and ringing) on the front steps of our church. What a wonderful way to proclaim our love for Him as well as the need to have Jesus Christ in our lives. Attending Sunday School is a great way to continue showing your need to have Him in your life. There is a class for everyone!

  • Men’s Bible Study - Hugh Manley
  • Myrtle McHenry - Eleanor Cline
  • Bible Discovery Class - Rosalie Coxen
  • Christian Friends- Rev. Rudiger

Open to those from birth to age 5 from 9:30 through service.

Our children’s classes have gone through a restructuring process and I’m encouraged and thrilled with our results! The time frame from 9:45-10:45 a.m,, known as Sunday School will now work on a rotation type of schedule. The children will work on one Bible lesson per month in an exciting way each week of the month. We are also incorporating some of the items which require practice into this time frame thus, eliminating the need to add yet another item to our already busy evening schedules. I would like to rotate the volunteers quarterly to give everyone the opportunity to attend Adult Sunday School so please contact me or Rev. Rudiger if you are interested in the January through April quarter. The following is our schedule through December.

  • October- Creation
  • November- The First Sin
  • December- Joseph and His Brothers

Each week we will study in creative ways such as crafts, games, cooking, creative drama, science, and music. Starting in October we will practice approximately 10-15 minutes each Sunday on the Christmas Program followed by a 15-20 minute Bible Study and then our rotations, The first Sunday of each month will be Kris Cross practice with Kristin Palavis. The second Sunday of each month will be cooking with Sue Marsh. Denise Krofcheck will be working with the Handbells on the third Sunday of each month. An alternative activity will be offered during this time if your child does not participate in Kris Cross or Children’s Handbells. The fourth~ Sunday we will rotate between games, science, and creative drama. Parents are to pick their child up from class to attend either nursery or the service.

Ever wonder what the children are doing after Rev. Rudiger dismisses them? The children now meet in Fellowship Hall as one group for a few minute opening and then are dismissed to age appropriate classes. We have preschool! kindergarten (Christine Hinchee), 1st and 2nd grades (Morgan Abbott and Debbie Rudiger), and 3rd and 4th grades (Lori Gresko). We are still in need of 2 parents to volunteer so that the teachers can rotate weeks and are not missing every Sunday Service. (I would ask that parents also start thinking ahead to volunteer for the next quarter). Parents, if you need to attend Sunday School or Children’s Church with your child, I would ask that you participate in helping with the class. Children have a hard time concentrating so if you must have discussions I ask that you step out into the hallway. Parents are to pick their children up at their classrooms immediately following church.

The children will start practicing STRANGER IN THE MANGER during the first 15 minutes of Sunday School starting in October. If you wish for your child to participate in the program please make sure they are at the practices. . .we have lots of songs to learn!!! I know everyone will enjoy the program!!

Christian Education and the Deacons are pairing up to have a special fall/Halloween event here at the church. All children from the church, The Children’s Academy, Weirton Christian Center and the community will be invited to attend. The date will be Saturday, October 24. We have not set a time yet but you can expect it to be mid to late afternoon through early evening. Please watch the bulletin for the time once it is set.

Many Blessings as we move through the colors of fall!

Girl Scouts

This year the Girl Scout Program at Cove will continue to provide the Daisy Group geared toward girls who are in kindergarten and 1st grade. The four main goals of the Girl Scout organization are : 1) to become the very best person you can, 2) learn to respect other people, build strong friendships, and to learn and understand to appreciate others different from you, 3) to build your own set of values, and 4) to help you build leadership skills and to contribute to society by helping others. As you can see, this is a marvelous organization for our young girls to be involved in. The troop will have their first meeting on Monday, September 14th at 5:45 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. This troop is slated to meet every other Monday throughout the school year. If you have any questions or are interested in signing up your daughter...please contact Nicole Drobish at 304-723-3987. This is going to be an exciting year...I cannot wait to learn along with your daughters!
